Hot Improv Fights: Who won? Did they really fight? All Questions Answered.

Hot Improv Fights went down last week, featuring the first kickboxing fight at an improv show. If I’m wrong, please let me know. We will openly challenge any other improv show for that title. Even if factual evidence shows we are wrong.

For those of you who weren’t there, and even those who were, you might have some questions about what exactly happened at Hot Improv Fights. I’m here to answer those questions.

Who fought?

Fred Le and Joe Cabello, hosts of Hot Improv Nights.

Did you guys really fight?

We were throwing punches and kicks at around 60%, but yes, we were really fighting. This was not a staged fight. Anything could have happened, even complete failure, which was not an option.

Were there rules?

60 second rounds. Any punch or kick goes. 3rd round is all styles (Ground fighting and striking)

How did it go down?

Round 1:

Fred decided to try sparring forms which really confused me, so I hit him square in the jaw. I could tell that it hurt him, but he kept doing sparring forms.

I threw a few more unanswered shots at him, but it only provoked more forms. This round was really awkward. I was sure that I had won, but at what cost? I feared the crowd was going to think this thing was a huge hoax. I hoped that Fred would bring it in the 2nd round…

Round 2:

He did! Fred’s first move was a kick square in my chest (which was bruised for a week after). This round ended up being all heavy shots. There was some illegal grappling, but anything can happen in the heat of the moment. Near the end of the round I dropped my hands to lure Fred in. He mirrored me and dropped his hands as well so I gave him three clean shots to the head to end the round.

Round 3:

The ‘any style goes’ round didn’t go too well for Fred. I quickly took him to the ground and placed a choke on him. He ended up going unconscious for about 10 seconds while I gloated.

Was it successful?

No.
